Welcome To Encinitas

It lies on the scenic California coast just 25 miles north of San Diego. Known for its ornamental flower industry and its wonderfully mild Mediterranean climate, the city also boasts a historic shopping district, a renowned golf course with amazing views of the Pacific, and beautiful beaches famous for their great surfing. The natural beauty does draw many visitors, but the cultural amenities, good schools and superb weather often convince them to stay and make Encinitas their new home.

Why Move to Encinitas?

While the natural beauty of the beaches and coastal bluffs attract many, the great features of Encinitas make it a wonderful place to live. It is the home of the San Diego Botanic Gardens, which houses an Amazonian style rain forest and the largest bamboo grove in the country. The proximity to San Diego opens up many job opportunities, and the public k-12 schools provide some really good options for new residents. The five communities that united to create Encinitas each retain their distinctive personalities, offering a variety that gives Encinitas some of its vibrancy.

Real Estate in Encinitas

The real estate options in the area range from majestic residences with breath-taking views overlooking the ocean, to sleepy suburban neighborhoods. While the stretches along the coast include some of the most luxurious views and houses, the options further inland provide a variety of both older homes and newer developments. Along with its next-door neighbor, Carlsbad, Encinitas offers some of the best residential real estate in the San Diego area.

Schools

Three different school districts serve the residents of Encinitas: The Encinitas Union School District, Cardiff School District, and San Dieguito Union High School District. These three districts administer eighteen public schools, including La Costa Canyon High School, which was ranked by USNews.com as being in the top 250 public schools out of over 91,000 schools nationwide.

Parks and Recreation

The city has several recreational and cultural attractions for visitors and new residents. Aside from the wonderful surfing, the San Diego Botanic Gardens are a huge draw. The 37 acre expanse with its four miles of garden trails presents visitors with the amazing experience of moving from a desert environment right into a tropical rain forest. In addition to their vast bamboo grove, they also boast plant life from a wide variety of environments, especially native Californian plants. The Self-Realization Fellowship Temple located in Encinitas holds the great distinction of housing the hermitage where the Fellowship’s founder, Swami Yogananda, wrote his autobiography. The Lux Art Institute has a working studio environment that allows artists to share their works and their process with the public, enlivening the city’s rich arts community.

The comfortable year-round climate, the many cultural and recreational attractions, and the variety of good schools all make Encinitas an extremely desirable location for new residents. Its historic shopping district, proximity to San Diego and frequent community events also attract many people who are looking for a location with natural beauty and a thriving cultural environment.
